  • The introduction of a new method of traffic light control on the road network of modern cities

Traffic light control for urban road network has for several decades been one of the most important areas of study and application in order to ensure maximum efficiency . During this time he developed a variety of techniques and tools , a lot of research . But with the ever increasing number of cars and , as a consequence , poor road conditions and increases in the amount of traffic congestion , require more and more new and advanced techniques that would have allowed not only to solve the existing problems , but also to predict the possible developments in the future. Traffic congestion on the road network of the city continues to be a growing problem of modern cities . Possible reduction of traffic congestion can be achieved either by the constant increase in the volume of road surface, or by reducing the demand for personal vehicles . If we assume that the improvement will be achieved by increasing the number of roads , it is possible to face the fact that it is not always feasible , given the current road infrastructure . Accordingly , it follows that it is necessary to focus on the use of traffic management to reduce congestion and subsequent increase in urban transport mobility .

  • Local Atomic Structure and Computer Modeling of the Copper Ion in Amyloid Beta Peptide: XAS Study

Alzheimer's disease is an incurable illness. It affects about half a million people in Russia, and due to the general trend towards aging of the population the number of Alzheimer's disease cases will steadily increase. Insoluble deposits of amyloid beta in the brain tissue (amyloid plaques) are the major morphological characteristic of Alzheimer's disease. It has been found that the increased concentration of copper in amyloid plaques results in copper ions bound to the protein. It is the presence of copper in the binding site triggers of the formation of amyloid plaques. Therefore, the study of the binding site in amyloid beta is of great scientific interest. The local atomic structure of the Cu(I) copper ion binding site in the amyloid beta peptide has been studied by means of XANES spectroscopy. Several model structures obtained by molecular mechanics and density functional theory (ADF code) have been tested. Theoretical analysis of X-ray absorption spectra based on the finite difference method implemented in FDMNES code was performed. An appropriate model structure of the Cu(I) copper ion binding site in amyloid beta peptide has been found.

  • Research of the influence of the development level of intelligent transport network on the efficiency of intermittent bus lane priority application

The article deals with the analysis of intermittent lanes priority based on simulation. The implementation of intermittent lanes priority system is only possible within the framework of urban intelligent transportation system (ITS).  In some cases, there are not always enough ITS components for the operation of intermittent lanes priority system. Based on the simulation it is possible to determine the efficiency of the intermittent lanes priority system with the minimum or complete number ITS components. To compare the effectiveness of intermittent lanes priority system the simulation was performed for the four scenarios:
    1. Without the use of public transport priority
    2.  Classically  marked priority lane
    3. Using the intermittent lanes priority system with a minimum number of ITS components
    4. Using the intermittent lanes priority system with the full amount of ITS components
According the results of simulation we concluded that the minimal intermittent lanes priority system is noticeably inferior to a fully functional intermittent lanes priority system on the effectiveness, but such system does not require a high level of development of the urban ITS and can be considered as the first stage of a complete intermittent lanes priority system.

  • Selection of the transformation method of loess soils of Rostov region with account of different factors.

A significant part of Rostov region and North Caucasus regions of the built-over territories according to its settlement consists of I and II type loess soil.
The author develops a method for optimal parameters determination of the stabilized loess bases under the influence of different factors (loads, emergency steeping, ground waters level alteration etc.). Selection of optimality criteria depends on the applicable method of technical melioration. Determinative limitation is the calculation upon the II group of limit states. Application of non-linear mechanical and mathematical models for calculation of structural and unstable soils upon deformations is recommended.
Silicification stabilizing of loess soils is almost impossible at the filtration coefficient of K<0.1 m/day.
Characteristics of the fixed massive depend on soil moisture level, injection mode, density of sodium silicate solution, time of injection and volume of solution.
Determinative conditions for the possibility of soils injection stabilizing with cement or other solutions are the following: geometric criterion (cement particles size and soil pores size, determined by the active openness), solution viscosity in relation to density, injection pressure, water-cement ratio, filtration coefficient. The most common pores in loess soils are active pores of 20 micron diameter, quantity of which comprises 20-50% of total soil openness. Solution-conductive (active openness) are the pores of more than 0.01 mm at size.
Selection of stabilizing method depends on the form of the stabilized area.
The author, basing on variation principles of mechanics of constructive and non-linear systems and theory of adaptive evolution of mechanical systems, developed determination method of rational form of the stabilized basal complex. Specific feature of the developed model is increasing of bearing capacity, stability and location of stabilizing area with more specific accuracy level within soil. To detect stress-deformed state in bases of buildings and constructions there are elaborated programs in APDL languages in the ANSYS software environment.
