Morphological Analysis of Architectural and Compositional Features of Medieval Fortified Residential Complexes in North Ossetia
Incoming article date: 19.12.2025The article is devoted to identifying the morphological patterns of medieval fortified residential complexes (galuans) in North Ossetia, based on field surveys between 2022 and 2025 and 3D scanning of architectural monuments conducted. The author deconstructs the “architectural code” of mountain building as an autochthonous system and systematizes four fundamental principles. Using the complexes in the settlements of Galiat, Lisri, and Khanaz as case studies, the paper analyzes the types of module interlocking and the principles of tectonics.
