Application of mineral additives in concrete and their effect on corrosion resistance
Abstract
Application of mineral additives in concrete and their effect on corrosion resistance
Incoming article date: 18.12.2025The article deals with the actual problem of increasing the durability of concrete and reinforced concrete structures by using various mineral additives. The mechanisms of concrete corrosion, sulfate, chloride, carbonization, frost damage, and corrosion caused by magnesium ions are analyzed. Changes in the regulatory framework concerning organomineral mixtures (OMS) are highlighted.
The goal is to study the influence of developed complex additives, for example, based on low-calcium fly ash, microsilica, and superplasticizers, on the properties of cement stone to increase its density, strength, and resistance to sulfate corrosion. Research results show that mineral additives improve the corrosion resistance of concrete due to the pozzolanic reaction, compaction of the structure, reduction of permeability, and changes in the phase composition of cement stone. The effect of various additives on strength, waterproofing, frost resistance and resistance to aggressive environments is described in detail. Examples of concrete compositions with organo-mineral modifiers of the MB type for various applications are presented, demonstrating the achievement of high-performance characteristics. The pozzolanic activity of some additives was analyzed. The promising nature of nanotechnological approaches is noted.
The conclusions are that the use of mineral additives is an effective method of increasing the corrosion resistance and durability of concrete. The correct choice of the type and dosage of additives, based on the understanding of the mechanisms of their action and operating conditions, allows you to significantly extend the service life of construction structures and ensure their reliability. Complex organomineral modifiers and nanotechnologies open wide opportunities for creating high-quality concretes with specified properties. Keywords: concrete, mineral additives, corrosion resistance, durability, fly ash, microsilica, organomineral modifiers
