Examines the main issues concerning the analysis of statistical data from organizations specializing in the operation and maintenance of gas pipelines, as well as dealing with the fixation of accidents and emergency situations in the gas and oil pipelines. For an analytical review of selected reports were five different global gas organization (including the organization of the Russian Federation) that specialize in the collection and analysis of information associated with leaks and blowouts that occur on pipelines.

The article is devoted to the scientific research task the determination of the location and size of the leaks in gas pipelines. Shows the main methods for determining the location of leaks, and proposed a mathematical model which can be used to find leaks in gas pipelines. Analyzes the process of change of pressure at different operating modes. Considered three variants of leaks gas.
