  • Computer Modeling and Improvement of Extrusion Tooling

This paper presents a simulation of square bar extrusion using the finite element method in QForm software. The sequence of simulation stages is described and verified using an example of extruding AD31 alloy. The geometry of the extrusion tool (die) was improved to reduce material damage and eliminate profile distortion. It was found that rounding the corners and adding a calibrating section to the die provides improved performance. The analysis of metal heating from plastic deformation is also provided. The study highlights the importance of computer modeling for optimizing tools and increasing the efficiency of the metal forming process. Specifically, the initial and final die geometries were compared to assess the impact on product properties. Recommendations are provided for using simulation in the practice of developing metal forming process technologies. The benefits of using QForm software over alternative solutions are highlighted, including access to a comprehensive material database and robust technical support. The improved die design resulted in reduced plastic deformation and improved product quality. Finite element analysis significantly accelerates the development and testing of tools, providing the ability to develop optimal designs that account for various factors.

  • Qualitative study of the emulsion layer formation model

The article discusses the basic model of the formation of an emulsion layer on a rotating cylinder. Special attention is paid to the study of the influence of various parameters on the internal characteristics of the emulsion formation process. A mathematical description of the displacement layer is given and functional dependencies between the parameters characterizing the emulsion formation process are derived. Based on experimental data, the qualitative influence of "internal" and "external" factors on the formation of the emulsion layer has been studied. The result of the study were graphs, analyzing which the following conclusions can be drawn. An increase in the viscosity of the emulsion leads to a decrease in such parameters as the boundary of the fracture region of a more viscous liquid layer adjacent to the surface of the rotating cylinder, the viscosity of the emulsion in the transition layer, but there is an increase in the consumption of the emulsion. It is also established that the growth of the complex of "external" parameters leads to a decrease in all internal parameters during the formation of the emulsion. The research conducted in the article will help to take into account the obtained dependencies when calculating the operating and design parameters of devices.

  • Automated Control System for Magnetic Desliming

The desliming process plays a key role in mineral processing technology, ensuring efficient particle separation based on their magnetic properties. The article examines the issues arising from the use of traditional magnetic deslimers under elevated slurry temperatures. One of the main drawbacks of existing methods is the decrease in magnetite density as temperature rises, which impairs separation quality and leads to losses of the valuable product. The article explores the physical aspects of this problem and proposes methods for its mitigation, including control of the magnetic field strength to optimize flocculation. It also considers the possibility of upgrading deslimers by replacing permanent magnets with electromagnets, enabling more precise process control. Magnetic field modeling with ANSYS Maxwell software confirms the effectiveness of the proposed solutions. The work’s primary focus is the development of a hybrid intelligent control system for the desliming process. The proposed system consists of three control loops: water supply, electromagnet excitation current, and desliming discharge. Each loop is managed by proportional–integral–derivative regulators, which are automatically adjusted based on data regarding changing slurry parameters and external conditions. Applying these methods can significantly improve the quality of the iron ore concentrate, increase the iron content in the product, reduce losses in tailings, and ensure stable equipment operation under varying environmental conditions.

  • Selection of underwater pipeline crossing design for construction in difficult natural conditions

The design and construction of underwater pipeline crossings is a complex multifactorial task. Unfortunately, the existing recommendations on the design of these facilities, aimed at ensuring the reliability of structures, are not confirmed in operational practice. For example, with the trench method of building a single-pipe double-stranded structure, the distance recommended in the regulatory and technical documentation between the main and backup pipelines is often insufficient with intense deformation of the channel, which leads to a loss of bearing capacity of both strands of the underwater passage. Modern trenchless pipeline laying methods can minimize the risks of emergency situations. However, a number of factors, such as the pumping of corrosive products, the construction of oil and gas pipelines in difficult natural conditions (permafrost, increased seismic activity) require additional measures to ensure the reliability of underwater crossings. Our proposed option is to replace the single–pipe structure in trenchless pipeline laying with a two-pipe one. The objective of the study was to influence the fillers of the inter-tube space on the structural reliability of the pipeline and the feasibility of using the pipe-in-pipe construction method.

  • Face Detection System Using MB-LBP on Resource-Constrained Microcontroller

This paper discusses the Viola-Jones algorithm for face detection and its implementation based on the STM32 microcontroller. The advantages of using embedded systems in implementing personal identification systems are given: low cost due to the reduction of the element base and low power consumption. The architecture of the hardware and software system for face detection based on a multi-core microcontroller is proposed. The following requirements are put forward for the implemented facial recognition system: processing frequency of not less than 1 frame per second, output in color format, display of faces in the form of rectangular frames on the frame, refusal to use external memory modules. Cascades and features used in the classical version of the Viola-Jones algorithm are described. MB-LBP is chosen as a feature due to the efficiency of calculation and storage within low-power embedded systems due to integer single-byte results. The structure of files of trained OpenCV classifiers is described and methods for their compression and conversion for use in 32-bit systems with limited RAM and the absence of a floating-point unit are proposed. A method for optimizing an integral image using overflow calculations is described. A multicriterial optimization problem for selecting optimal parameters of an integral image is formulated and solved using the gradient descent method. The application of SIMD instructions for parallelizing the calculation of an integral image on the STM32 is described. The results of measuring the operating time of the implemented system at different stages are presented, which confirm that the previously stated requirements are met.

  • Technological features of tongue-and-groove fencing of construction equipment

The paper considers the choice of the optimal technology for the construction of tongue-and-groove fencing based on the hierarchy analysis method. Decision-making in construction practice requires consideration of many factors, including internal (cost, reliability, speed of work) and external local conditions (risk of interruptions in the supply of materials, the influence of weather conditions, work in cramped conditions). The hierarchy analysis method makes it possible to formalize the decision-making process by structuring the task in the form of a hierarchy and comparing alternatives in pairs. In the course of the study, a comparative analysis of the technologies of hammering, vibration immersion and static indentation of sheet piles was carried out. Priority vectors for each criterion were calculated, and the consistency of the matrices was checked. The final choice of technology is justified based on the integration of internal and external factors. The results obtained allow us to recommend the optimal technology that takes into account the technical and organizational features of the construction process.

  • Extrapolation of a video signal with quasi-rational spectral density

In this paper, the problem of extrapolating a video signal with a quasi-rational spectral density, which significantly generalizes the rational density, is explicitly solved. The spectral characteristic of video signal extrapolation is constructed using the original method of A.M. Yaglom, a follower of academician A.N. Kolmogorov, who first posed the problem of extrapolation for random sequences and processes. The essence of the method consists in transferring all studies and calculations of spectral characteristics and densities from the real axis to the complex plane. The paper considers a video signal with a quasi-rational spectral density of a special type, interesting for practical applications, in which, as shown by the author using the Chebotarev and Sturm methods, it has all its roots only in an open upper half-plane.
