  • Computer simulation of interaction of silicate and phosphate additives by quantum chemical analysis

This paper presents two methods of computer simulation (quantum chemical analysis and molecular dynamics) of the interaction of additives with the iron surface. Quantum chemical interaction of silicate and phosphate additives with iron surface was carried out. The plate model was used for quantum chemical analysis, calculations were carried out in the DFT approximation. The method of molecular dynamics is based on the calculation of the evolution of the system of interacting particles of atoms and molecules by integrating the equations of their motion. It is shown that the oxidation of the surface leads to a decrease in the adhesion energy of both individual additives and their combinations, allowing to find the influencing factors on the behavior of tribosystems.

  • Theoretical foundations of technology for obtaining modified wood

The article considers theoretical bases of technological process for modified wood production for sleepers manufacture. Currently, sleepers are made mainly of natural softwoods, the stock of which is severely limited. In addition, sleepers made of natural wood have short wear-life. In this connection, there is a need to create a new high-tech resource-saving production of railway sleepers from modified wood by impregnating it with antiseptic and stabilizer compounds and carrying out thermal and mechanical modification of wood. For this purpose, a systematic analysis of physical phenomena underlying the technological operations has been performed and on the basis of which the curves for workpiece heating along cross-section in an oily liquid based on similarity criteria has been theoretically calculated, and on the basis of the physical phenomena of heat and mass transfer the duration of workpieces drying has been calculated. Methods of impregnation, loading and depressurization during pressing have been got. Based on system analysis of physical phenomena and performed calculations, structure and regimes of technological process for modified wood manufacturing have been developed.

  • The problem of ice on the wires of the overhead lines of the railway power supply system

Overhead contact system is a part of electric traction network which doesn’t have safety margin of a construction that’s why its using in winter becomes much difficult. The most heavy overhead contact system work is the operating regime in wind and ice loading because of wind and increasing not only on wires and suspension strands but on supporting structures. Ice loading on wires makes current-collecting conditions much worse and taking into account operational factors it can be a cause of a traffic accident and trains stop. The authors examine some methods of ice prevention, their efficiency effect and the capacity of their combining. In connection with this it is very important to trace ice load as early as possible. Equipment set for thermodynamic method instantiation and its fixing variant are represented.

  • Using of manganese-vanadium concentrate for intensification of vanadium-containing converter slag roasting

A manganese-vanadium concentrate precipitate containing V2O5 and MnO2 is formed on the stage of wastewater ozone treatment in sodium technology of vanadium-containing converter metallurgical slag processing. Vanadium content of the slag changes between 4 and 15 % wt and manganese content changes between 62 and 75,5 % wt. The article examines influence of concentrate with 14,33 % wt V2O5 and 65,44 MnO2 % addition in slag-with-soda furnace feed to determine positive effect on the result of roasting. Vanadium content of the slag is 22,34 % wt expressed as V2O5. Roasting temperature is 850 °C, Na2O/V2O5 molar ratio is 0,5:1, the concentrate is added as 0,25; 0,5; 1,0 mass ratio on the content of soda in starting furnace feed. Degree of vanadium conversion in water- and acid-soluble compounds is increased. The most effect is provided on the process of interaction between vanadium oxides and spinels with sodium compounds with formation of water-soluble vanadium forms. The optimal addition of concentrate is 0,25-0,5 mass ratio on the content of soda. Increasing of concentrate content is not effective. Both manganese and vanadium contained in concentrate give positive effect. Concentrate addition can be recommended for existing industry regardless of type of alkali addition on the stage of roasting.
