  • Investigation of the properties of a material based on a modified anhydrite binder

In recent years, studies have begun on the possibility of using anhydrite binders. However, the slow hardening makes it difficult to use this binder for residential and civil construction. The elimination of these difficulties is possible as a result of a deep and comprehensive study of the hardening process of anhydrite binder and the properties of the resulting stone, will make it possible to develop a technology for the manufacture of various building structures based on this binder.

  • Increasung efficiency of internal combustion engines

This article is devoted to the problem of increasing efficiency of internal combustion engines, and decreasing the levels of potentially harmful chemicals and particulates in the engine exhaust. Internal combustion engines are widely used in automotive transport. Currently there are more than a billion of internal combustion engines in use. They consume substantial amounts of fuel and adversely affect the environment. This paper focuses on a novel approach to increasing the efficiency of internal combustion engines through the use of a turbine-based mechanism. This setup enables the engine to avoid friction losses caused by the currently used crank-and-connecting-rod setup. The turbine-based mechanism will be less prone to detonation of the fuel mixture, and will increase the compression ratio. It will also allow to add 3-8% of hydrogen to the fuel mixture, thus increasing the operating temperature and decreasing the concentration of potentially harmful chemicals and particulates in the engine exhaust. Besides increased efficiency, the proposed engine design will enable liquid-based cooling of the turbine blades. Traditional materials can be employed in its construction.

  • Microwave method for determining the position of the contact wire of electrified railways

The paper describes the method for determining the position of the contact wire of electrified railways using microwaves. The method is based on the triangulation system of two georadars and allows to determine a contact wire zigzag and height from the rail head. The proposed method is all-weather with the possibility of continuous monitoring of the overhead contact wire in plan and profile with the opportunity to automate the processing and signaling abnormalities.

  • The Correlation Analysis of Ensemble Singing

According to the signal theory vocal speech presents a non-stationary random process due to time variation of its main characteristics. A special emotional impact is gained during ensemble and choir performances. The article provides the correlation analysis results and the autocorrelation function of ensemble singing calculated, taking into account the non-stationary nature of acoustic signals. The studies have shown that there is a certain visual resemblance between correlation portraits of a non-professional student ensemble and a non-professional solo singer. At the same time the correlation portrait of student and professional co-performance tends to a professional singer correlation portrait. This helps to make a quantitative assessment of an ensemble’s professionalism which, alongside with a vocal teacher’s subjective assessment, can provide an objective view on singers’ voices condition to optimize the academic voice training process in an ensemble, which is important when using this voice assessing method in music schools, colleges and universities.

  • The Correlation Analysis of Vocal Speech as a Nonstationary Random Process

Vocal speech is a random process. Taking into account the fact that the main characteristics of a singing voice vary with time, in the article vocal speech is studied as an acoustic nonstationary random process. To describe this process we should calculate one of its informative parameters – the autocorrelation function. The findings show that there are some differences between the autocorrelation functions for professional and nonprofessional singers. This helps to make a quantitative assessment of a singer’s professionalism which, alongside with a vocal teacher’s subjective assessment, can present an objective view on a singer’s voice and provide a good basis for optimization of academic voice training. Moreover a teacher does not have to be technically educated because this quantitative assessment is presented in diagrams which are quite easy to assess visually. It is especially important to consider when we use the given voice assessing method in music schools, colleges and universities.
