  • Digital system design debugging using prototyping

When designing digital systems, the stages of design debugging are important and laborious. Debugging is carried out on the manufactured prototype of the digital system. For debugging, in addition to the object being debugged, a set of debugging tests and the ability to organize debug modes on the system prototype are required, which allow, by analyzing intermediate variables, to localize an error in the project when an incorrect reaction of the system prototype to a debug test is detected. The advantages and disadvantages of design debugging on the hardware prototype of the entire digital system are considered, as well as the method for selecting a typical standard core. In the latter case, only prototypes of atypical interface circuits and blocks are made, which are connected to a previously manufactured and debugged standard core. The features of both approaches are analyzed. Classes of the most frequent applications of the considered methods are formulated.

  • Autonomous power supply of valve assemblies on pipelines

In the oil industry, autonomous electric power sources containing renewable energy sources are used to power remote consumers with an occasional load, mainly valve assemblies on pipelines. The need for electric energy sources of this type is determined by the need to install valve assemblies at pipeline intersections with water barriers, at intersections with transport arteries, and in a number of other cases. Very often in such places there are no available power lines or substations. In this case, the only alternative is the use of autonomous sources, or the expensive construction of an extended overhead line. In some cases, the developer decides to abandon the overhead line due to its high cost and the need for additional land acquisition. From the point of view of ecology, such a decision in favor of autonomous sources of electric energy also has an additional positive effect. Since the installation of valve assemblies is dictated mainly by environmental considerations, high requirements are placed on the reliability of power supply. Violation of these conditions can lead to hydraulic shocks in the system and possible destruction and breakage of system elements. A wind turbine or solar panels are undoubtedly an independent source of power supply and, when paired with batteries or a diesel generator set, can formally provide high reliability of power supply. On the other hand, there are periods of time when the power of a wind turbine or solar battery is insufficient to supply a given load. As a consequence, the decision on the reliability of power supply should be made on the basis of additional studies of the static and dynamic stability of the entire electrical power generation complex.

  • Ontological Modeling Approach for WHAT-Knowledge by means of ORM2-diagrams and the developed Protege-plugin

To share and transfer knowledge, they must be presented in an explicit form that is understandable to both humans and computers. The paper proposes an approach to ontological modeling of WHAT-knowledge, which allows representing knowledge simultaneously in two forms: a) in the form of a visual model (ORM2-diagram), understandable to humans, and b) OWL2-ontology, computer understandable. To convert the knowledge representation from one form to another one, it is proposed to use ontological patterns (mapping rules). Currently, there is no software toolkit that allows a) to build an ORM2-diagram and mapping it in the OWL2-ontology, and b) based on OWL2-ontology, build a visual model in the form of an ORM2-diagram. Therefore, we are developing a Protege-plugin, which should provide a) the creation and editing of WHAT-knowledge by building an ORM2-diagram and mapping it in the OWL2-ontology, and b) visualization of WHAT knowledge in the form of an ORM2-diagram, extracting instances of ontological patterns from the OWL2-ontology.
